 Dr. Lakshmi Menezes, M.D., of Internal Medicine, is Board Certified and is an affiliate with the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Menezes is a phenomenal physician of Access Health Care’s Internal Medical team. She has been practicing medicine since August, 1996, when she finally completed her extensive post-graduate studies and training as the Chief Medical Resident of the Department of Internal Medicine at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital, Roosevelt Division, New York, New York. However, Dr. Menezes embarked on her medical journey back in 1986 as an undergraduate in the College of Medicine and Surgery at Kilpauk Medical College at the University of Madras, of Madras, India. In 1992 she was awarded with the gold medal for the proficiency in Social and Preventive Medicine. Also, in 1992 she became a Senior Trainee of the Clinical Research Department of the Ambedkar Institute of Diabetes in Madras, India. She then became a Resident Physician in the Intensive Care Unit at the Ayesha Hospital in Madras. Finally, Dr. Menezes moved to New York in 1993 and acclimated to the position of an Intern and Resident in Internal Medicine at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital, Roosevelt Division. In addition to the numerous educational awards, certifications, and post-graduate training licensures she has accumulated, Dr. Menezes’ administrative and teaching background is just as extensive. From 1998 to 2002, she was appointed Medical Director of the Coplin Memorial Health Center in Elizabeth, West Virginia. Her responsibilities included supervision of mid-level providers (physician assistants, nurse practioners), chairing and participating in quality improvement and quality assurance groups. In addition to supervising, she also provided primary care for children, adult male and female and geriatric patients. Dr. Menezes’ clinical services include preventive and periodic health care, diagnoses and treatment of most chronic medical and sub acute-illnesses, minor surgical procedures, interpretation of EKG’s and blood tests. During her time as Medial Director, she was also working as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of West Virginia’s School of Medicine, where she was on the faculty of the Rural Health Education Program, an extensive training for nurse practitioners. Dr. Menezes, M.D., has also undergone a variety of research activities in medicine. She participated in clinical studies which looked at ethnic differences in fat distribution and its effects on metabolism and health at the Obesity Research Center at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital, New York. She is a current member of the American College of Physicians and American Society of Internal Medicine. Not only was she a physician at the Coplin Memorial Health Clinic, but Dr. Menezes was also a consultant physician of Internal Medicine at the Saad Specialists Hospital in Alkhobar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 2003-2004, before she began her phenomenal career with Access Health Care. While Dr. Menezes is an amazing Internal Medical Physician, she also specializes in anxiety, depression, gynological exams, and of course, Internal Medicine. Her absolute favorite part of her job as a physician with Access is the friendly atmosphere that her office brings. But more importantly, it is the people who she interacts with on a daily basis. Dr. Menezes is a people person, and she truly enjoys getting to know her patients on a personal level over time. She has always known in her heart that she would become a doctor. It’s what she is good at. Her father and uncle were both doctors, and she just knew that she would also carry on the family career. On a more personal note, Dr. Menezes is married to Dr. N. Menezes (who is also a physician with Access Health Care’s Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease). They have one girl and one boy, who they love spending quality time with. When not in the office caring for patients, she is often with family, or listening to her favorite music (Indian classical music). Music plays a pivotal role in her recreational time, as it helps her to unwind. She is also an avid reader and gardener.
