hotheadIf there is one problem in life that is devastating and will affect almost one million people in this country annually, it is a brain injury commonly called a stroke.

What does “stroke” mean?

Hippocrates (460-370 BC) - considered the “father of medicine”- was the first to describe the manifestation of the stroke in his writings using the word apoplexy. This is a term derived from the Greek language meaning “struck down with violence” to denote the event. It appears that the more preferable term to use in everyday language (both lay and medical) is stroke.

Highlight Physician of the Month - Nahed Bolis, M.D.
bolis_headshot_webversionNahed Bolis, D.P.M. is board certified in the prevention and treatment of diabetic foot wounds as well as diabetic footwear and podiatric surgery.

Dr. Nahed Bolis received her M.D. degree from Assiut University of Medicine & Surgery in Egypt, and completed her clinical internship at Suhag University Hospital.  Dr. Bolis practiced medicine from 1987-1997, where she served three years as a general practitioner and seven years as an obstetrician/gynecologist.

doggie_news_augustYou receive news as it happens at Access Health Care!  This month, there are some important newsworthy events we are excited to share with everyone!  First, Access is pleased to announce positive changes for some of our exceptional employees.  For example, Jennifer Andrews, this month’s spotlight employee, will add “practice partner liaison” to her many duties.  This position was created to assist our third-party billing company, Medenet.  Jennifer will be our point person for adding new practices to the Access family.  She will coordinate all stages of the process, including activities, procedures, meetings, and  credentialing between the new practice and Medenet.

codingCoding has a language all its own.  Unfortunately, the language that a coder speaks and that taught to providers is not one and the same. An easy example to demonstrate is “history of.”

When a provider says that a patient has a “history of” something, it could mean that they have a chronic problem that was treated in the past and still exits.  History of urinary tract infection, CAD, COPD, hypertension, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, osteoporosis, choose any of them, or add some of your own.
For a coder, “history of” means:
